Default Clutch Question

In the plans it talks about a Tork-A-verter.....can you just use a standard go kart clutch.....like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-M...QptZGoQ5fKarts

And if you did, what tooth would you need? This one is a 12T one.

Yes you can use a regular clutch like that one. The problem is that it doesnt give the out of the hole torque that you want, so not much wheely action. I believe the ratio you want in picking a clutch and drive gear is that you want it to be at least 2.5:1 meaning your drive gear is at least 2.5 times bigger than your clutch. But don't quote me on that. If you dig around on the forum some one else posted a similar question about clutch size.

Thanks. I think I might start out this way and then decide if I want to go to the torq converter. It's like $35 vs. $179. Big difference.

Does your motor have a 3/4 shaft? I have a 3/4 clutch here you can have for postage but I dont think the 3/4 goes all the way through. I will have to look.

That would be great. Yes the motor is a 3/4 shaft. I'm planning on using the cheapo one from Habor Freight.

Let me know.

The 3/4 clutch I have will not work on a BSR. The 3/4 does not go all the way through so it would stick out too far. On mine I have to install my clutch with the teeth in toward the motor.

Thanks for the help though.

Does yours run pretty good with a clutch? Can you do wheelies?

Cool. It sounds like you're a little bit a head of me. I'm making my own frame. I'll be starting next week with the welding. That should be fun.

Also I'll be buying the clone honda motor from HF. Anything I should know?

I see you had some issues with the motor mount. I'm going to wait for the motor until I weld the mount on the frame. Maybe I can move it over enough so I don't have to turn the clutch backwards. Where did you find your clutch and what brand did you buy?
