Hi everyone:
I have a 6.0 HP stool and the motor came with a cheap mini bike type clutch. I have read about upgrades from the $20 cheapy to past $100
I do not have any idea on what to look for to give me better performance from my stock cheapy unit. I have read about the torque -a - vertor set-up and had been told if I build-up my stool motor the torque -a- vertor set-up is not good for high performance use?

I'm a big man around 320LB and I'm looking to see what I can do to make my stool have better low end and perform better, "if that is possible."

I guess I should realize I'm dealing with a lawn mower type motor and should only expect mini bike type performance when it's all said & done?

(The Briggs animal motor) BMI sells them for around $550.00 has anybody ever used one and especially on a stool. Also I can buy a 11 HP tecumseh motor that looks like my 6.0 Hp unit, I wonder if that would work to get me the power I would like to see. I would like to have more power than just enough. I have a 72in rear sprocket and it will not spin the rear tires in lose gravel. I have a header & K&N air filter on my stool righ now.

Any suggestions on future upgrades such as motors etc. I can go around 25 to 30 Mph right now, "it feels like it anyway." And my rear sprocket change from a 65 to a 72 was a huge difference in low end.

Thanks

Just curoius hows the 6 hp you're using run? I would think that with a 72t sprocket it should be able to spin the tires on lose gravel with ease. Also what size is the front/drive sprocket ? that might be some of it right there. The bigger the drive the less low end and more top end.

I have a few suggestions.

1. If you want more speed, get a 54T sprocket, but do not expect to spin the tires. The 72T has a lot of low end, but your engine can not rev fast enough probably to brake the tires loose.

2. Put TAV2 on your engine and also change the rear sprocket to a 54T, nice pickup and a snappy start. Should even be able to ride wheelies.

3. Get the animal with a racing clutch if you really want to the power and speed. I would also go with a smaller rear sprocket in that case like a 54T or a 40T.

I would suggest not going with 11HP engine because you may have clearance problems with the stool.

Hoped that helped!

Tav2 what is that? Also the animal engine what kind of horse power is it and is it drivable at low to moderate speeds? I have a cheapy clutch that came with my stool and I think that might be part of the problem. I had a 65 rear sprocket than went to a 72 because I had no low end at all, now I do. Actually the 11 Hp motor is close to my 6.0 HP for highth and it looks like the same type of engine block.

Am I expecting to much from a lawn mower engine, since these things do not have any gears etc. I have seen after market clutches up to and over $100 and I do not understand what I would get for the more expensive units compared to my cheapy mini bike type set-up I now have.

Thanks

TAV2 is a torque a verter like this one :

I've got one on my mini chopper ,that i'm using a 9hp honda clone engine on. With the tav2 with a #41 chain i think the biggest drive sprocket you can use on the tav2 is a 10t. With my 9hp my chain jumps. I really need a 11tooth or 12t drive sprocket but, i can't find one. I've talked to main people you use a Tav2 on their mini's running a 5.5 or 6.5 and they have no prob with there chain jumping.

NO ! you are not expecting to much from a lown mower engine. My mini chopper is 8' long and i'm 6'2" at around 250 lbs . When i had a 54t rear sprocket is was running 40 mph all day. I've now have a 48t rear sprocket and i'm over 50mph. My low end it not as much torque as it was but it does take right off and get up and go. My eyes start to water.

I have a tav2 with a 6.5 tec, When I was building my stool, I was worried it might be underpowered. 40 tooth sprocket in the rear with the tav. I lean forward full throttle, and pull the front wheels straight up, hit the wheelie bar, slightly lift the rear wheels past the wheelie bar, come down{front wheels} and then back up again for about 1 or 2 seconds before finally being on all fours and have a top speed of @ 40 mph. 5'10 and just over 200lbs. tav is the best of all worlds.
