Hey hows it going? Im looking at buying a set of plans from Barstoolracersupply, and im pretty torn between the two frames. The only real difference i notice is the front end. Is one better than the other? What are the major differences? Thanks! :thumb:

The main difference between the two is that the Classic Cruiser is very easy to build. You can lay out all the parts on a garage floor and tack weld them together. The steering column is also removable on the Classic Cruiser for easy transporting in a small vehicle.
The Pro Street Cruiser has a few more parts and requires a little more time to assemble because the front end is mounted on 3 front supports which require a little more time to setup.
Both sets of plans will walk you through every step of the way, so don't worry about which plans you buy. If you want simple and quick get the Classic Cruiser plans, if you want a Cool Pro Street Look go for the Pro Street Cruiser.
If you are a first time build and new to metal fabrication, go with the Classic Cruiser and then after you build it you can build the other if you want.

Hey thanks a lot! It sounds like ill be going with the classic because i AM a first time builder. I worked in an automotive repair shop for a year and a half, so I definately have the know-how. I've never welded before, and I'll be transporting it a lot. Now you said that the bars are removable? Are they held in place by a setscrew of some sort? Thanks again

The whole steering column is removeable. There are 4 bolts at the base of the legs that bolt the steering column to a pair of custom brackets that are welded to the frame.

Mike,
I purchased a set of the Pro Street Cruiser plans last fall, and have been looking around on this site for a few months now.
I went and bought 48 feet of 1x1 tubing so I'm ready to go.
But just now, I have decided to switch my build to the Classic Cruiser, since it has foldable handle bars. Thats a big item on my BSR design, I need to be able to transport this thing in the back of my SUV.
Is there something you can send me that shows the different front end?

Hi Gadget Man,
I can send you a photo of the front end design if you want. The Classic Cruiser really is a whole new design and it may look similar to the Pro Street Cruiser, the majority of the parts and placement of the parts are different because of the front end.
I would suggest getting the Classic Cruiser Plans so you don't have any problems.
If you want me to send you a photo of the front end design let me know.

I think I'll just order the other set of plans.
The thing that made me order the Pro street Cruiser Plans in the first place was that it looks a lot stronger and sturdier than the "Classic"
Is that handle bar/steering set-up stong enough for a 230 pound man to pull back on to do a wheelie ?
The other drawback was the size, it looks so small. I was already planning on extending the "Pro Crusier" frame 2". Can I do that with the "classic" ?
Is this a good idea? will it effect the handling?
As long as I'm on Question-asking-overdrive, I'll keep going. If I go with a 6.5 HP engine and just a standard clutch/chain set-up, will it do a wheelie? It ain't no-fun if I can't do a wheelie!!
I already have a Bar Stool, but it's only 13.5 inches wide on the bottom. is this wide enough?

Hey Gadget,
Both frames are just as strong. Don't let the looks fool you.
The handle bar setup is very strong. I have had riders over 300lbs on the Classic and rode wheelies. If you want to ride wheelies, I would not go with the standard clutch setup. Use a TAV2 and you can ride wheelies all day long. There have been a lot of posts on clutches -vs- tav's in the forum and one thing I remember is that it was very hard to get a wheelie out of the clutches. Spend the extra on a TAV2 and you will be happy.
As for lengthening the frame, the only real difference you will notice is your turning radius. The Classic Cruiser turns really nice and rides very smooth. I have had mine up to 47 mph and it handled great!
The difference in length if I remember correctly between the two is the Classic Cruiser is about 4 - 6 inches shorter.
The barstool width is fine. You may want to cut the parts of the frame that make up the width to 13.5 or leave them at 15" and make little feet to rest the barstool on. The plans will tell you which parts to cut if you decide to go that route.

I just got the new plans on my E-mail, but have not printed them out yet.
Ok, now you have convinced me to go with the TAV. I was waiting for someone to come right out and tell me that.
Remember "Overkill's the Thrill"
Do you think if I use the 6.5 Sterling Engine off E-Bay, with the TAV, I'll be able to fit it all under a 13 inch wide stool.
Even if I use little spacers, it's the bottom foot ring that I'm worried about.
This will be my last question on this Thread, I promise.

Gadgetman, Yes it will fit if you turn your legs with them mounted in the middle of back/front and the sides. See my dad's BSR it has the sterling engine w TAV in it on the classic Cruiser frame!!:thumb:

Which is your Dads BSR? do you have a link or a photo?
I don't want to spend the money on a new stool, but if it's cheaper and easier than moving the gas tank and air cleaner, I'll gladly do that to get it right the first time.
Boy, these things add up fast, I figure I'll have $1000. into this thing, Don't tell my wife.

Here is a pic of it. I made a ram air set up and put it where the fuel tank was but the tank fit fine! Hope you can tell someting about what I was talking about.
