hello
i have just switched from a centrifugal clutch to a TAV. although my tires were pretty low on air, the TAV didnt seem to match the clutch's speed. it has more/better take off power but just seemed, to me, to lack speed. i was wondering if someone could give me some insight on gear ratios. kinda looking for info on what the higher ratio number means and what the lower ratio number means. both times i have had 10T on the drive sprocket and 40T on the axle sprocket

thanks for any help

It's a trade off...top speed vs bottom end....If you want more speed and think you are willing to live with less take off...put on a larger drive sprocket or a smaller axle sprocket. Gear ratio is the number of times the front sprocket has to turn to turn the rear sprocket once. Your current ratio is 4:1 (drive sprocket turns 4 time, Axle turns once) the closer you get to a 1:1 ratio the faster you will go....but....the slower you will take off......I have a 6:1 ratio...but all I'm into is wheelies and doughnut's...If I have a need for bugs in my teeth four wheel speed I jump on my Raptor..

how bad is the take off with the lower ratios?
and
on that calculator, what do think a ball park figure is for the tecumseh 6.5HP engine's RPM

I am running one of those Honda knock-off's, 6.5 hp, the papers on it states 3600 rpm. I dont know how much these small engines vary.
I am running 12 & 75 sprockets, it pulls real good, I can just roll in the throttle and lean back for wheelies, and does dounuts in the grass sitting down.
but when you go wide open it takes off real hard then just kinda falls over on the govenor, estimate about 25mph, maybe a little less.
