Woodchuck,

I believe I remember seeing a kit that you can use on a go kart, so I am sure it can be used on a BSR. I would have to say that the stopping power would be less than disc brakes.

This is a subject near and dear to my heart having built a kit for my motor home to install 6 wheel disc brakes. My experience there has been that the drum brakes were more responsive at very low speed but the disc was much better if there was enough speed to get the disc warmed up. Stoping in the motorhome from a walking speed requires much more pedal pressure then from say, ten MPH. On a barstool it would seem that just putting around the drum would be better and at speed the disc would shine. Maybe that is why cars come with both. Don't forget that the size of brake will depend on the amount of traction at the tire more than anything. The other thing that comes up is that if you are using a diferential it would be easy to get into a situation where you have no brakes. Such as braking wheel on the grass and the other on the sidewalk. Food for thought....Terry

I dont like drum brakes if there is a reasonably priced disc kit available. If price is a factor, go with the mechanical Carlisle caliper. I tried one on my latest project and have been very pleased with it. No doubt the hydraulic discs are the best, but this is a good second choice.

If you want to save some money, do it somewhere other than brakes!! If things go wrong and you want to stop, you want to know you didnt skimp out on that.
