whats you guys take on a single wheel drive like the old yard carts? I've been thinking about building another BSR. But tryin something different. The last BSR had the live axle on it and I wanted something diff.

It will help it turn tighter. Should work just fine unless your on 2 wheels and give it some gas, might be interesting then.

cool, no 2 wheels this time. just meant to cruise. plus this time it will only have a 3.5 tecumseh and clutch.
anyone have a pic of a SWD barstool?

I know I've seen a axle at northern tool that would allow a single drive...had a differential. It is heavier but if your just cruising it wouldn't matter much.

Hey,
I made my wifes a single wheel drive. I could post pics, but it looks the same as a live axle. I already had the live axle setup, so I just welded a 5/8 bolt inside the hollow axle and put a front hub with the bearing in one wheel. Now, the axle is still live, but one wheel spins free. Not sure it's the cheapest way to go, but i didn't need any jackshafts or anything to get the power to the drive wheel, and your design can all stay just like it was. By the way, it handles and steers great on pavement, but if you pull the front end up it pushes you to one side real fast. Also, on loose surface like gravel, the drive wheel wants to push you around sideways.
hope this helps,

wayfat, sounds great you could email them to me or post them up, left up to you. Like i said i want pe poppin wheels. got to lookin at the frame today and i think i'm just gonna get me a stainless cooler for it and do a cooler seat. I'm thinking of just welding the 5/8 bolts to the side of the frame for the free wheels or drill a hole slide threw and then weld?????? anybody have a better idea?

OK, here they are. I had a guy at my old job machine down a piece of metal to fit snug inside my hollow axle. then he machied the rest down to 5/8 inch and threaded it. I welded this inside my axle, and used a front wheel hub with bearings on the wheel. Now the right wheel spins freely, and the whole axle and left wheel are live.
hope this helps,

thanks wayfat, also is there a way to use racing kart wheels and tires with the live wheel itself setup? I know the freewheels would be fine.

fenters 2005, My kids raced 1/4 midgets when they were small, In the stock class you could only use single wheel drive. Most hub mfgs make a hub that has a brass bushing so one side free wheels, or if you have access to a lathe you could take a standard hub and machine it for a brass bushing. Seems to work well, and the bushing seems to last a long time with little wear. Like in one of the other posts, acc and stopping would pull you to one side. Good Luck Slick T

Thanks Slick, thanks for the reply and giving some insight on this also. Here's the deal now. the other day i bought a old kart off craigslist and robbed it off the wheels and tires, engine plate, tie rod ends, spindles and brackets and some more nic nacs. I have been hitting parts with a brizzel wheel and re-shooting them, so i still have to clean and shoot the wheels and i will just use those. I appreciate all the help to the guys on this thread.
Thanks.
