i am new to building these and i have started to build on and i dont want to put little tires on it because i believe that it will bottom out on speed bumps and i will be riding around alot of those so i am going to go with a 18" tire like a golf cart tire or something of that nature so i was wondering if i could get some help on like what sprockets would be best for me. thanks

Get a tall spocket for the back 72 tooth or higher this will give more torq. to pull the big tires :hot:

bIGGER TIRES i WOULD RUN A #41 CHAIN :hot: so check out that size in a clutch or torq. converter. I would go with the torq. converter for better pulling power through grass sand, stone or up hills

If you need some golf cart tires and wheels, I have stacks of them.

/AS far as the original post goes, I've been thinking something similar. Seems must tire'sprocket combos only give you an inch or 2 of clearance, so I was wondering if:
12 tooth front gear going to a 72 tooth gear(8 inch or so), #35 on a jackshaft. Other side of the jackshaft has an 18 tooth gear(tad over 3"), #40 going to a matching 18 gear on the axle. So I'd have a 3" gear on the axle rather than 8", but would it be the same 6-1ratio? would I lose much to friction?

One more question about gearing.... I'm plnning on using a 5hp 2 stroke, so I assume this takes a steeper gear?

72 Sprocket is a very good choice, I had a 65 and my stool had no guts at all taking off in heavy grass etc. Also a sharp turn at low speed the stool would just could not turn, (not enough power) Now I have great low end and I did not lose that much top speed either.
Add an header & K&N filter big difference in power. I'm a big man and now I'm happy with my set-up 6.0 HP Tecumseh for now.
